A bit dusty up Birdsville way.

Nothing a spot of hoovering and a wipe over with Mr Sheen and a duster won't fix.

Report here.

I watched this one roll into Melbourne 23 years ago. I was standing on St Kilda Road approximately one kilometre to the left of the white Arts Centre spire. I went home with the cuffs of my trousers full of red dust. Cuffs were in fashion then.

  1. Don't you get a nostalgic feeling when you see a pic of the old gas and fuel buildings?

  2. Jim Crombie, born at Birdsville in 1943, said it was "one of the greatest and most colourful" dust storms he had seen.

"It was really pretty ... bluey, yellow and dusty colours in different parts," Mr Crombie said.

My word, that man is an optimist. Looks like the old Dust Bowl photos of the 1930's.

  3. I remember that one! That's one of those defining moments. I was working in High Street, Malvern, and we all went outside and watched the oncoming cloud advance up the road, with the street-lights coming on - it really did look a bit like the end of the world!
